Types of Roulette bets
Inside Bets: As the name suggests the bets which are placed on the inside section of the table with the specific number are the inside bets. A rule of the game is the sum of your bets has to equal the game minimum, for example if the table minimum is $10 for your game then either you can bet $10 on one number or place 10 bet of $1 each on 10 different numbers. You can also use any combination of bets on different numbers but the sum of your bets should come to $10. If you wish you may also bet more than the table minimum. The different bets which come under the inside bets are:
- Split Bet: When you bet on two numbers which are adjacent to each other on the roulette table it is known as split bet. To place this type of bet you need to place the chips on the line between the two numbers. The payout for the bet is 17 to 1.
- Straight –Up Bet: This is the most simplest of the bets that can be placed on a roulette table. All you need to do is bet on a single number and just place the chips on the number on the table you wish to place the bet on. The payout is same as split bet, which is 35 to 1.
- Corner Bet: Also popularly known as square/quad bet is a bet that is placed on the four numbers found in the corner of the roulette table. The bet can be placed by placing the chips at the intersection of the four numbers. The payout is 8 to 1.
- Street Bet: Another name of the street bet is row bet or line bet. This is the bet that is placed on the three numbers that are found in a row on the table. You just have to place the chips outside the end of the row of numbers you want to place the bet on. The payout is 11 to 1.
- Double Street Bets: Also called the six line bet, the bets are placed on two streets, in other words rows of numbers that are adjacent on the table. To place the bet you need to place the chips on the line that is in between the two streets. The payout is 5 to 1.
- Basket Bet: In American roulette a five number bet which is made on zero, double zero and the numbers one, two and three is called basket bet. It has a house edge of 7.89% on the double zero wheel making it the worst of all the bets. The payout is 6 to 1.

Outside Bets: Any bet that is placed outside the central section of the table is called outside bet. Unlike inside bets each of the outside bets has to be either greater than or equal to the minimum for the game. The bets cannot be combined to reach the table minimum. Also the outside bets are not counted in the total of your inside bets for reaching the table minimum. Let us now see what are the different outside bets you can place on a roulette table.
High or Low: This bet can be placed on either of the two ranges of numbers the high numbers of 19 to 36 or the low numbers of 1 to 18 on which the ball ends. The bet can be placed by placing the chips at the square that is labelled with the range you wish to bet on. The payout is 1 to 1.
- Odd or Even: The bet is about the number on which the ball will land will be either odd or even. You cannot place a bet on zero if you wish to place an odd or even bet. You can place the bet by placing the chips in the center section marked for odd or even. The payout is 1 to 1.
- Red or Black: This is a simple bet based on the colour of the number the ball will land on that black or red. The bet can be placed by placing the chips on the section that is marked by black or red colour on the table. The payout is 1 to 1.
- Column Bets: A roulette table has three columns of numbers each of which contains 12 numbers. To place the bet you need to place the chips at the end of the column you want to bet on, on the square that is marked 2 to 1. The payout of the bet is 2 to 1.
- Dozen Bets: This bet is placed on sets of 12 numbers like 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. You can place the bet by placing the chips in the square marked 1st (1-12), 2nd (13-24) or 3rd (25-36). The squares are located in a section that lies in between the inside bets and the outside bets. The payout is 2 to 1.
